The interview of M.E. Sysoeva and V.V. Matveev with the linguist Dr. V.A. Chirikba is devoted to the researcher’s creative path and a specific area of his scientific interest — comparative historical linguistics. The conversation discusses not only biographical milestones, but also the stages of development of the Moscow School of Comparative Linguistics, the history of the ideas of the Russian linguistic school and its contribution to Caucasian studies, as well as the atmosphere of scientific meetings of the Nostratic seminar and memories of colleagues.
