In an interview, S.S. Alymov discusses with ethnographer A.I. Gogolev his intellectual biography and the development of ethnology in Yakutia. In the first part, A.I. Gogolev talks about his development as a scholar in the 1960–1970s. He pays great attention to his teachers and contacts with scholars in Moscow and Leningrad. Then, the interlocutors discuss the study of the ethnogenesis of the Yakuts, shamanism, the development of Yakut ethnology and cooperation with foreign anthropologists.
