Abstract

The subject of research of the article is the history of science. We consider the formation and development of the Novosibirsk Center of Ethnography. It was formed in the second half of the twentieth century during the formation of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences. The Department of Ethnography of the Institute of History, Philosophy and Philology of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences (later the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences) took the leading positions in it. The Department relies on the resources of Novosibirsk State University; it actively cooperates with academic and university centers in Russia and abroad. From the moment of its formation to the present, it focuses on the systematic study of the formation and development of the peoples of the Urals and Siberia, and more broadly, Central Asia. The task of solving fundamental problems of the past and urgent problems of the present on the basis of a multi-paradigm approach within the framework of integrative interdisciplinary projects determines its history and prospects.
